Expressions of confidence can give leaders credibility. In the political realm, they earn votes and public approval for decisions made in office. Such support is justified when displayed truly a sign that leader (whether candidate or an incumbent) competent. However, politicians are overconfident, result be election incompetent adoption misguided policies. this article, we discuss processes lead to “arms race” encourages display more than their rivals do. We also illustrate how overconfidence hyperbole have impaired responses COVID-19 pandemic many nations offer guidance distinguishing who levels reflect true assessment situation from those fake self-assurance. then suggest ways all spheres convey uncertainty honestly without losing credibility, propose way prevent resulting ineffective counterproductive legislation.
